NOTICE CONCERNING THE PROTECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

Aware of the issues related to the circulation of personal information on the Internet, the Municipalité of Canton de Hatley has developed this policy to ensure the protection and respect of your privacy. Since your personal information is valuable, we would like to inform you of the type of information we collect, as well as when, how and why we collect it.

Personal information is any information that can identify you, such as your first name, last name, age, telephone number, postal address, e-mail address, IP address, etc.

The Municipality does not collect any personal information without your consent.

When you provide us with personal information via our website after accepting the terms of this notice, you consent to our use of that information in accordance with the terms described in this notice. 

COLLECTION AND PROCESSING OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

When?
When you register, whether for recreational activities, tax payments, the newsletter, permit applications, etc., and enter your personal information in the fields provided, the Municipality collects the information required to use the service.

The Municipality respects the confidentiality of the information you provide when you complete a survey, enter a contest, contact the Municipality by e-mail or register for a service offered by the Municipality. This information will only be used for the purposes for which it was provided.

Please note that comments and briefs submitted as part of a public consultation are public and may be published on the Municipality’s website.

Why?
Collecting this information allows you to benefit from our online services, without having to visit Town Hall, and enables us to send you information by e-mail.

It also enables us to:

  • Respond to your requests for information, applications, event registrations, etc;
  • Improve our services;
  • Analyze market and marketing strategies;
  • Better target your needs and preferences.

By whom?
Only employees of the municipality have access to the information you have provided. Personal information collected by this site is not passed on to third parties and is processed solely by us.

No personal information will be made available to third parties without your explicit prior consent.

Collection of personal information by a third party and in another country
The Municipality may collect personal information indirectly, in particular by using MailChimp to distribute its electronic newsletter. Mailchimp is hosted in the United States.

How long does the municipality keep personal information?
The Municipality does not retain user information beyond what is necessary to achieve the purposes for which it was collected.

Cookies on the municipality’s website
“Cookies” are pieces of information sent to you by a website when you visit it. They are deposited temporarily or permanently on your hard disk to keep a record of your visit. The municipality uses cookies to collect information in order to improve the site and its content. These cookies will never be used to identify individuals or browsing habits outside the Municipality’s website.

The use of cookies is common practice in the IT world. Most browsers accept them by default. They are harmless, and you can consult and delete them if you wish, since they are stored on your hard disk and only you have control over them.

Use of cookies by the Municipality
We use this information to improve and personalize your browsing experience, as well as to analyze our performance indicators. Hyperlinks external to the municipal site
The Municipality’s site contains hyperlinks to external government, agency and corporate sites. These links are offered free of charge to provide additional information. Although the suggested sites are recognized for their reputation and the quality of their content, the Municipality cannot be held responsible for the validity of the information they contain. These hyperlinks do not constitute support, association or endorsement by the Municipality of the companies or organizations that publish these sites.

When you leave the Municipality’s site via a hyperlink and decide to continue browsing, you do so according to the terms and conditions of the external site you are visiting. These conditions are in no way binding on the Municipality.

Right to access, modify and delete your personal information
You may consult, update, modify or request the deletion of your personal information by sending a written request to the person responsible for personal information.

You may also obtain, on request, a copy of the personal information that has been collected or obtained about you in the course of using the service.
