Through simple actions, you can contribute to the quality of life of everyone around you.<\/p><h3><strong>Possible conflict elements<\/strong><\/h3><ul><li><strong>Noise<\/strong>: music, shouting, gatherings, noisy work, etc.<\/li><li><strong>Animals<\/strong>: droppings, barking, animals without a leash, etc.<\/li><li><strong>Other nuisances<\/strong>: smoke from open fires, odors or noises from farm animals, etc.<\/li><li><strong>Personality conflicts<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Mental health disorders<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><h3><strong>Behaviors to favor<\/strong><\/h3><p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>At all times<\/strong><\/span><\/p><ul><li>Tolerance and respect<\/li><li>Courtesy in interactions<\/li><li>Appropriate language<\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>In a conflict situation<\/strong><\/span><\/p><ul><li>Clearly name the object of the conflict<\/li><li>Avoid feeding it<\/li><li>Take psychological and physical distance<\/li><li>Stay aware of possible delays<\/li><li>Take action in search of solutions<\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Steps to take in a conflict situation<\/strong><\/span><\/p><ol><li>Advise the person with respect of the element of conflict.<\/li><li>If the situation persists, contact a mediation organization.<\/li><li>If the mediation process is not conclusive, send a demand letter giving the person concerned 10 days to remedy the situation.<\/li><li>If there is no improvement, take civil action.<\/li><\/ol><p>Throughout these steps, we recommend keeping an event log.<\/p><h3><strong>Event log<\/strong><\/h3><p>To facilitate your dealings with the various authorities, write clearly, concisely and precisely: Date and time of the event, nature of the event, witness(es) present, brief explanation of the situation (2- 3 lines), solution(s) attempted and result(s).<\/p><h3><strong>Mediation<br \/><\/strong><\/h3><p>Citizen mediation is a method of conflict management by and for citizens led by volunteer mediators trained by the alternative justice organization, <a href=\"https:\/\/equijustice.ca\/fr\/membres\/estrie\">\u00c9quijustice Estrie.<\/a><\/p><h3><strong>Criminal Code of Quebec<br \/><\/strong><\/h3><p>Certain conflicts can escalate and lead to a criminal complaint under the Criminal Code of Quebec:<\/p><ul><li>Harassment<\/li><li>Intimidation<\/li><li>Threats<\/li><li>Assault<\/li><\/ul><h3><strong><br \/><\/strong>Municipal by-laws<\/h3><p>Municipal by-laws are there to help maintain peaceful neighbourhoods. <a href=\"https:\/\/cantondehatley.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/2018-11-nuisances.pdf\">By-law 2018-11<\/a>\u00a0concerning nuisance prohibits excessive noise (sound devices, music, construction work, etc.) that could disturb the peace, comfort or well-being of the neighborhood.<\/p><p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Pets<\/span>: The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/spaestrie.qc.ca\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 protectrice des animaux (SPA) de l&#8217;Estrie<\/a><\/strong> is mandated by the municipality to apply the\u00a0<u><a href=\"https:\/\/cantondehatley.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/2020-06-animaux-2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">By-law concerning the control and responsible custody of animals<\/a>.<\/u>. To obtain a fire permit: \u00a0873 389-5886 or use our <a href=\"http:\/\/regieincendieest.ca\/feux-agrave-ciel-ouverts.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online form<\/a>.
