Age-Friendly Municipality

Since 2009, more than 1,000 municipalities, regional county municipalities, and Indigenous communities have benefited from the Age-Friendly Municipality support program, which covers 95.1% of Quebec’s population. This program aims to adapt policies, services, and structures that affect built and social environments in order to create conditions that optimize opportunities for active aging. The program is affiliated with the World Health Organization.

The Age-Friendly Municipality initiative aims to encourage the active participation of older adults in their communities. The mission of an Age-friendly municipality is to improve the living conditions and environment of older adults in order to promote active aging, respect their lifestyle, and better meet their specific needs.

In the Canton de Hatley, the Age-friendly municipality committee was created in 2018.
