IMPORTANT: no waste collection (black bin) on October 3
As the change to the collection schedule begins the first week of October, the October 3 collection will be for recyclables only. The next black bin collection will take place on October 17.
The Municipality of Canton de Hatley is increasing the frequency of organic waste collection to twice a month from NOVEMBER to MARCH. At the same time, it is reducing its ultimate waste collection to once a month from OCTOBER to APRIL. The detailed schedule for 2025 will be sent to you before the end of the year and will also be available on the website.
These changes are designed to promote the recovery of residual materials and reduce the amount of waste going to landfill. Remember that the fundamental objective of the Quebec Residual Materials Management Policy is “that the only residual material eliminated in Quebec is the ultimate residue”.
HERE ARE SOME TIPS FOR USING THE BROWN BIN IN WINTER:
- Put a piece of cardboard (e.g. cereal box) or a few sheets of newspaper at the bottom of the bin
- Put a large paper bag for garden waste in the bin and place the compostable material in it
- Avoid putting liquids in the brown bin
